With
over 30 years of experience working with individuals who have
developmental disabilities, Dr. Kirby Lentz is Chileda's President and
CEO of Operations. He holds a bachelor's degree in Education from
Kansas Wesleyan University, a master's degree in Education from the
University of Nebraska-Kearney, and a doctoral degree from Saint Mary's
University in Educational Leadership with an emphasis on organizational
effectiveness.
Along with the Board of Directors, Kirby has set the following goals
for Chileda:
1 Enrich the
organization culture of Chileda.
2. Develop a viable
and realistic 10-year plan to meet the current and
projected unmet needs.
3. Transform a good
program to a great agency.
4. Demonstrate
sustainable capital development.
5. Expand community
awareness of autism and the influence public policy.
6. Extend service
availability.
Kirby began his professional career as director of habilitative
services at Bethphage in Omaha, Neb. He joined Chileda Habilitation
Institute in 1984, as Program Director and Vice President of
Operations. Certified as a Master Trainer by the American Association
on Mental Retardation, Kirby's abbreviated job description is to assure
that every staff member is committed to the progressive education and
personal outcomes.
He is a member of the American Association on Mental Retardation, the
Wisconsin Association Family and Children's Agencies, the Autism
Society of America and the Wisconsin School Boards Association.
Considered to be an expert on the education of children and young
adults who are developmentally disabled, Kirby is often invited to
speak at local, state and national symposiums. He is a lecturer at
University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse and Viterbo University, an agency
facilitator for the implementation of The Council on Quality and
Leadership for Persons with Developmental Disabilities standards, Vice
President of the State Superintendent's Special Education Council and a
member of the Onalaska (Wis.) Board of Education, where he serves as
president.
Dr. Lentz is the author of “Hopes and Dreams: An IEP Guide for Parents
of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders” and published numerous
articles on the impact of the individual Education Program (IEP) for
parents, local schools and educational leaders.
Kirby also participated as a research team member for two significant
educational studies: "Efficacy of Phytonutritional Dietary Supplements
for the Treatment of Autism" (1996) and "Efficacy of Auditory
Integration Training for Children with Autism" (1997). |
