Chileda
is located in the Upper Mississippi River Valley, an area affectionately
known as "God's Country."
The community
of La Crosse, WI offers an abundance of social, recreational and
cultural opportunities. Through field trips and other supervised
outings, our residents can experience many of the same activities
that other kids enjoy. These outings build social skills that are
an integral part of daily living.
Chileda is a care provider, a classroom, a playground, and a treatment center. Most importantly, Chileda is a nurturing home. Our campus located at 1825 Victory Street has been specifically tailored to meet special challenges and to provide enrichment and growth.
Some things we want you to know:
- The duplexes promote a feeling of "home" and are fully-functioning apartments with all of the amenities that a regular home would have.
- The activities building has been specifically designed to provide for our unique educational, vocational and recreational needs.
Chileda is housed in a 43,000-square-foot campus. In addition, we are within a couple of miles of Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, Franciscan Skemp/Mayo Health System, Viterbo University, a liberal arts institution of higher education founded in 1890 by the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, Western Technical College and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
These
institutions are more than mere acquaintances. Each is a part of
our extended support network. They offer guidance, share their expertise,
and provide facility-based resources that are critical to helping
us serve those who live here. Through their participation, Chileda
will continue to take advantage of the latest medical advances and
be apprised of new educational strategies that will benefit our
population.
Without
the profuse generosity of those who offer gifts of time, expertise
or facilities, successful non-profit educational institutions such
as Chileda simply can't survive. Residents of the greater La Crosse
area and, certainly, people from the global community have also
supported Chileda with generosity that is both gratifying and humbling.
How
can we repay such kindness?
To
show our appreciation, we sponsor several in-service workshops to
share our knowledge of developmental disabilities and new treatment
options. These seminars are offers at no charge to medical and social
service professionals, educators, and other interested individuals.
