Chileda
has grown to become a national model of care and treatment for
children and young adults with developmental disabilities and challenging
behaviors.
Several
of our staff members are recognized experts in the field of autism
and associated disorders; they regularly contribute to articles
for trade publications that serve our industry and serve as speakers
and roundtable panelists for symposiums and conferences. They exhibit
a passion for their work that is rare in most organizations ‚ non-profit
or otherwise. Part of that might be due to their shared belief that,
someday, a cure for autism will be found and that their work will
contribute to that wonderful discovery.
Such
ambition is borne of an insatiable desire for information. Our expertise
is gained from a variety of educational resources and from first-hand
experience. Through the years, we have amassed an impressive array
of books, magazine articles and other literature about autism. The
Chileda library is among the largest in-house collections of its
kind in the country.
Chileda
also conducts original research on emerging approaches to the treatment
of autism, seizure disorders and other neuromuscular and neurological
maladies. We aggressively seek to identify new and better ways to
aid children with developmental disabilities.
Critics
agree that Chileda is an effective learning center. Their praises
are reflected in the receipt of several state and national accolades,
which include being named one of President George Herbert Walker
Bush's "Thousand Points of Light," receiving Franciscan Health Care
System's "Spheres of Influence" award, National
Accreditation by the Accreditation Council for People with Disabilities,
and the Governor's
Diamond Award by the Wisconsin Glass Ceiling Commission.
Chileda Wins CPI Award

Chileda, from La Crosse, Wisconsin, was recently honored as a Site of Excellence by the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) at the 12th International Instructor’s Conference in St. Louis, Missouri.
Chileda received the award for an initiative to reduce the use of restrictive techniques; developing proven strategies for resolving situations when confronted by anxious, hostile, or violent behavior, while always protecting the therapeutic relationships with those in their care.
Chileda is dedicated to providing a positive and productive living and learning experience for children with autism and other related developmental disabilities. Consultation services, expert staff, and a large resource library are available to meet the diverse needs of the 7 Rivers Region.
